What does community building, a concept most often associated with efforts to develop communities of citizens in a given area, have to do with REALTOR® associations? As traditionally defined, the answer is very little. However, in today’s environment “community building” within a community of REALTORS® isn’t simply an innovative concept. It is, in reality, a critically important mission for today’s REALTOR® association, the very core of so many REALTOR® communities across the Country.

Just as communities of citizens at large have suffered a decline in the cooperative spirit that once marked “Main Street,” REALTOR® communities in North America have also suffered a disintegration of the very spirit of collaboration and mutual interest that once drove the entire industry.
